GET TO vs. GOT TO

With our challenge starting today (details below) I wanted to really save one of the best ideas I had for last.

Now I get it, right now, a lot of people view the early stages of whatever plan they are going to do as a bit of drudgery. After all, if you haven’t gone to the gym and you are starting now, you might have chosen the wrong thing or you might not LOVE the new thing yet.

Same thing with logging food. If you haven’t done it, it’s enlightening but at first it’s a hassle.

But if you just use this idea for fitness and nutrition you are missing the big idea.

When I look back to all of my daughters' events when they were young I fell into the trap of saying “I’ve GOT to go” when in reality “I GET to go” was the state of mind I should have had.

Luckily because of pictures I get a re-do and most days I send my daughter's pictures of their childhood.

Now don’t get me wrong, by most accounts I was a good dad but I wasn’t always PRESENT for my life.

Some of that is because I embraced distractions more than I embraced the magic that was my life. One big example was Fantasy Football, man I wish I could have all those hours back.

Obsessing over a job that basically isn’t going to help over a movie with my wife, that was a big miss.

These ideas are easy to stomach as you age because frankly you feel more vulnerable. You realize TIME is finite. The richest people in the world have that same resource that you and I have. No one gets to cheat that system because perfectly healthy people pass away unexpectedly all of the time.

It also fundamentally changes who you are, if you GET TO go to the doctor rather than GOT TO go to the doctor it’s a mindset shift. Many people around the world don’t have that privilege, you are lucky to have that. Embrace it.

That one concept is infectious.

If you look at the world we live in right now there is WAY too much projection where people aren’t living in the moment. They are worried about everything because they aren’t embracing NOW or embracing the world and people that are a blessing to their lives.

The one thing about starting a new life is that what you find is that it literally changes so many other aspects of your life. I know these last few years have been tough on a lot of people but when you ask me about 2020 and 2021 I look back and think of how I got to spend more time with my daughter before she left for college. The few moments I did have with my older daughter I was able to have, I cherished those moments and my relationship with my wife got tested in a way that just brought us closer together.

Not to mention the growth with the team at Eat To Perform. We are much more than just numbers and what to eat. Our team grew a lot closer in the last few years. Being a part of that was amazing.

These last few years really have brought a lot of gratitude to my life and that’s what I would like for all of you. The most precious resource in your life is time and what you fill up with that time.

One last thing, if you think something, SAY IT. This is something I have done for years but I could still be better.

Recently my whole family got together to go visit my youngest at her college and we were sitting around and talking and I told them that I always love being with them. Being with my two daughters and my wife is the best thing in my life and it always has been.

Those few small changes can literally change your world.

I have struggled with depression most of my life and I don’t always get my self care right but I do have tools to help me when things are off. Don’t assume that just because your weight is high or you don’t workout that will fix everything because when it doesn’t you will quit.

I fill my day with things I love (this is my job and I hope people see that I love it), it’s a process and it takes time but when you go from GOT TO to GET TO it can and does change a lot.

Today is the last day to sign up for our 10-10-10 challenge, we are giving away 10k in prizes for our 10th Anniversary and it starts TODAY on January 10th. We would love to have you.

Even the programs that reverse don’t do a good job because they cave to the fear of their clients or they let AI (artificial intelligence) do the work.
